hand-hewn log: wood member, structural or non structural.  Surface is decorative, created with a drawknife or mechanic planer, which simulates a handcrafted wood piece.

hand-hewn timber:  wood member, structural or non structural, with a dimension of 4” x 12” or greater.  Surface is decorative created with a draw knife or mechanic planer that simulates a hand crafted wood piece.

hand-hewn timber siding:  Pre-manufactured wood siding, available from 1-1/2” to 2-1/2” thickness, with a 10” or greater width.  Surface is decorative, created at the factory or mill, with a drawknife or mechanic planer that simulates a handcrafted wood piece.

hanger:  A metal strap used to support piping or the ends of joists

header: (a) A beam placed perpendicular to joists and to which joists are nailed in framing for chimney, stairway, or other opening. (b) A wood lintel.

hearth: The inner or outer floor of a fireplace, usually made of brick, tile or stone.
